Ex-Nokia engineers founded Jolla to launch Sailfish smartphones in 136 countries

Jolla is a company founded by ex-Nokia engineers. The company came into existence when Nokia laid off thousands of its employees after losing its hold in the market in 2011. Nokia stuck to making phones of its own Symbian and MeeGo OS and refrained from opting Android. This strategy of Nokia paved way for its competitors to rise.

In 2011 Nokia decided to make Windows Smartphones and gave up on MeeGo OS, the group of ex-Nokia engineers worked on the OS and came up with a new version called Sailfish. With this Operating System Jolla announced Android application and hardware support, this became the USP of the Operating System.

And today the scenario has turned good for the founders of Jolla, the first series of Jolla phones were completely pre-booked since May 2013. Jolla smartphone comes with a 4.5-inch Estrade display featuring a resolution of 540x960 pixels, moreover this smartphone is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Dual-Core processor coupled with 1GB RAM. The device sports an 8MP rear camera (autofocus+LED Flash) along with a 2MP front-facing camera for video calling. The Operating System on this device is compatible with about 85,000 Android Applications.

Further this Sailfish OS from Jolla brings Nokia Here maps and 4G LTE connectivity on board. The smartphone will first hit the market in Finland followed by 135 more countries.
